GRIZZLY BEAR JOURNEY

2008 - August 25 to October 20

All photos in this slideshow were taken by our tour customers.

Large grizzly bearOn our Grizzly Bear Watching Journey we travel aboard our high-speed, covered vessel to the Orford River Valley located in picturesque Bute Inlet, similar to Knight Inlet. This pristine river valley is home to 40 resident grizzly bears and is also the historic home of the Homalco First Nation, one of the Coast Salish tribes. Upon arrival we are greeted by Homalco Aboriginal guides. We then travel along the Orford River Valley by minibus to specially designed platforms situated along the river in strategic locations ideal for viewing the mighty grizzlies. Here you'll have the opportunity to witness firsthand the autumn ritual of these bears feasting on spawning salmon in Canada´s true wilderness. Observation platforms offer complete security so that you´ll more fully appreciate your glimpse into the lives of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

This beautiful river offers panoramic views. Three hours are spent in the river valley at various viewing platforms. Here you will observe a beautiful rainforest area and its fiercest resident, the rugged grizzly, fattening up on salmon in preparation for a long winter.

The Aboriginal guides are trained and licensed to carry firearms for guest safety and protection. Every precaution is taken to ensure that you will enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

On this journey we may also observe killer whales, dolphins, eagles, and other wildlife in their natural environment.
